Access help during January’s Big Energy Saving Week

The energy market will continue to face some serious challenges this year, so it is important that you are not overpaying for your energy use and are able to keep warm this winter.

18 – 24 January marks the 8th Big Energy Saving Week – an annual national campaign to help & advise on reducing and managing fuel bills, while accessing any relevant financial support.

The campaign is a collaboration between the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Energy Saving Trust, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy with the support of numerous organisations, charities and companies.

With fuel prices rising and energy companies folding; the week will focus on raising awareness and providing information on how to:

  • Think carefully before switching energy supplier or tariff
You may choose to switch because you’ve found a better deal but there are very limited options on the market currently so it may be worth waiting to switch. Further information can be found here.
  • Manage energy bills
Check if you are eligible for certain support, grants or discounts off energy bills. Possible discounts include the Winter Fuel payment, Warm Home discount and also local grants may be available.
  • Understand how to save money by using less energy and making your home more efficient
From swapping baths for showers to checking the efficiency of your insulation – there are lots of ways to make your home more energy efficient. More quick energy saving tips can be found here.
  • Act if your energy supplier has gone bust
Do not worry if your provider has gone out of business, you will still have gas and electricity. Take meter readings as soon as possible. Ofgem will assign you a new supplier, but this may take a few weeks. Further information is available here.
